ABC Skateboarding Professional skateboard lessons for everyone

Pioneer Skatepark Appeal

“Where it all started for ABC Skateboarding”

Sum 5 years ago ABC Skateboarding got under way, with the intention of generating that new flow of enthusiastic new skateboarders. The pioneer has been  like a second home for ABC Owner and Semi-professional skateboard Alex Barton for over 14 years and it has allowed Alex to explore skateboarding all year round and help him develop not just his skateboarding but as a person. With great volunteers who work there and iconic skateboarders coming through the doors each week it is and always has been the place to be.

Over the 5 years of teaching at pioneer we have taught thousands of people to skateboard from al ages, backgrounds and abilities and now its time to give something back.  The UK’s oldest skate park is turning to the newest form of funding to raise money to refurbish its outdoor ramps.

The Pioneer Club in St Albans this week launches a Crowdfunding project to raise £10,000 to replace its worn-out outdoor ramps for the summer season.

Trustee Rodney Clarke is fronting the appeal. As a schoolboy Rodney helped build Pioneer’s first ramps in 1987, making it the oldest indoor skate facility in the UK. Rodney – who still lives in St Albans – went on to skate professionally all over the world.

Chairman, Ann Brooks said, “It is imperative for the charity that the park is used year round in order to stay open. We offer a supervised environment for our users, as well as tuition to ensure all young people are able to reach their skateboarding potential. We have very high hopes for this appeal”.

Pioneer is keen to talk to any local building firms who may be willing to help out with materials.

Rodney commented, “We care passionately about the local skate community. Please give generously and help us raise this much-needed funding”.
