Working with local councils, especially ones with such a fascination and love for skateboarding, brings a lot of joy to our hearts. Broxbourne council is just one of those and on the 23rd of July we delivered our professional and quality lessons to the town of Cheshunt. We’ve always firmly believed in active kids being happy kids and with probably one of our best summers in a good long time, the sun was shining and the smiles were shared by both parents and students alike. Everyone coming together to enjoy an afternoon of skateboarding was awesome, and all taught by our carefully selected instructors whose passion and love for the sport shine through just like the sun on this week!

Head instructor Charlie Spelzini and Coach Kit Osborn started the week off with a healthy and happy start. Obviously, beautiful weather conditions like we’ve had so far are wonderful, but they ensured that all of our students stayed hydrated, ensured that they applied sun protection and even treated them all to ice cream! This is what ABC is all about; providing a healthy and happy environment for our students to learn! After all, school’s out for summer and we’re sure that every student involved in our Cheshunt Skate Camp will remember this summer for the rest of their lives…

In short, the camp itself gained a lot of recognition throughout the small county town of Cheshunt. There wasn’t a single day where the skatepark wasn’t filled with young people raring to try something new. We provided them with a safe, structured and happy lesson every single day from Monday to Friday. Some students only wanted to try skateboarding for just the day… Every single one of them came back to enjoy the full week of skating. In other words, the skateboarding torch was lit and the love for skateboarding was discovered by  local children, and perhaps ABC Skateboarding has grown the new generation of skateboarders a little bit more… (We think so!)

Just like any other ABC Skateboarding lesson, we highlight the importance of balance and board control before working on more technical subjects like ramps and tricks. This is because of one simple fact: How can we run before we can walk? OR How can we master ramps if we cannot push or stop on our skateboard? A pretty straightforward way of thinking we think. Nonetheless, all of our students from the week in Cheshunt handled it all like professionals and all of them mastered their pushing, turning, stopping in no time at all! Just like any young person on a skateboard, the ramps were still the ultimate challenge and none of them backed down from giving it go. Persistence, a patient coach and a big swig of water were all the ingredients these young people needed to master the ramps and they did so with smiles on their faces and a look of achievement.

At ABC Skateboarding, we are so, so proud of all of our students. Conquering personal challenges, facing their fears and keeping active are factors that are really taken advantage of. One small step can make a tremendous difference to the lives of young people. After all, if something feels incredible and happy for you, you should persevere and give it a go. For us, we are over the moon with of one of our Cheshunt students in particular, Megan. After skateboarding for no longer than a few months, she had never met the team at ABC Skateboarding before. After just one week with Charlie and Kit, she had mastered her current tricks and learned so much more! After a brief chat with her parents, we thought it would be a great idea to introduce Megan to her first skateboard competition: Girl Skate Jam UK, organised by our good friend Jenna Selby and one of our other venues, The Pioneer Skatepark.

Megan was very nervous at the thought of entering a competition, but her coaches were there to cheer her on. A long story short, after just one week with ABC, Megan achieved 2nd Place at her first ever skate competition and we couldn’t have been any prouder! Well done to Megan and everyone who attended our Skate Camp in Cheshunt. Learning the right way is always a necessity; learning the ABC way is something unique and meaningful. Not one of our students is the same; we are all individuals with our own way of learning. At ABC Skateboarding, we embrace individuality and cater a skate lesson that suits you, your needs and your happiness. Broxbourne council has now seen just a glimpse of what we offer young people and how much it fills them with confidence. Where’s our next stop you might ask… keep an eye on the site for lessons in YOUR area.

Thank you to you all & welcome to skateboarding…
