Since April 2017, we’ve had a truly incredible experience working collaboratively with both Ride20 and Active Newham. During this time we have delivered weekly after school skate sessions every Wednesday at Plashet Park in the heart of Newham, East London.
With our team of instructors, we delivered every session the ABC way and we can safely say that it was a complete success. Our 5pm- 6pm sessions, aimed directly at new-starters to skateboarding; appropriately titled ‘An Introduction to Skateboarding,’ were at capacity every single session. The proof to our success? The smiles are all the proof we need. The second session from 6pm-7pm was a chance for the older ones to really get their feet going. Again, this was an amazing opportunity for all individuals from the community to get involved. And at ABC, we really do say, ‘why let the kids have all the fun?’
It was a truly amazing concept to see children aged from 4 years old, to those in their late-teens all coming together to enjoy something new. To have such a diverse learning group at ABC was absolutely incredible… Children and families from all different walks of life all coming together to enjoy skateboarding.
We’d like to take the time to thank Active Newham and Ride20 for providing such amazing activities for children in Newham. Active kids are happy kids, and there’s not one shred of a doubt that the children involved in our sessions were both!
Some might say that bringing communities together through skateboarding is a goal that’s unattainable. However, we believe over the few months skateboarding has empowered a vast number of children in Newham, giving them a true love for the sport and a passion to continue in the future. Love within a community is an ever-growing goal. It all starts with a little push and in Newham, it’s continued on four wheels…
